rockingham lakes

with very little to do over the christmas break i went for a walk around one of the rockingham lakes. not like the lakes in new zealand it was more like a salt flat . to one side there used to be a bombing range . i was there to see if i could see a snake in the wild , this didn’t happen , next time maybe..

a new year a new book

i was given books for christmas; all too good to put down … this is a problem as i am a one book at a time person,  i am in new territory as i am reading four at once, so i have had to put three down .. the one i am reading is ” Londoners’ Larder” by Annette Hope . its like a biography of london through famous people and the food that they would have eaten.a good insight into the way people lived…

to all

to all a happy new year….

And here’s a hand, my trusty fiere,

And a gie’s a hand o’ thine;

And we’ll tak a right guid willie-waught,

for auld lang syne…….

merry christmas

Thrice welcome, old Christmas, we greet thee again,

With laughter and innocent mirth in thy train;

Let joy fill the heart, and shine on the brow,

While we snatch a sweet kiss ‘neath the mistletoe-bough–

The mistletoe-bough,

The mistletoe-bough,

We will snatch a sweet kiss ‘neath the mistletoe-bough

rockingham aka swinging pig

saturday night in rockie for the non pub goer can be an interesting night . the biggest obstacle is no daylight saving here ,darkness comes early and so too the morning,  night comes quick .. this saturday night i went to cheak out a fishing spot ( i’m going to try my hand at saltwater flyfishing; this will be another post) the wind was up as always, so it was just another walk along the beach .. with a steady and regular wind the kite boarders were out having fun …friendly people, a nice stroll and  a few photos ended the daylight hours .. off to the pub for a quiet beer……

fairy terns

when i was last in perth i was staying at safety bay and on the foreshore there is an area where terns nest . there three different kind; the one that i like are the fairy terns . these little guys are smaller than the common sparrow . i went down to the nesting area to see them today ; i found them in big numbers which is good as the area is popular for watersports . here are some photos
