it was such an awesome autumn day on sunday that i went for a walk around the wetland … there are several in this area .. i visited  two ,one coastal and the other inland.. the inland one ,Pekapeka, is being restored and will have walkway access as the photos will show … the coastal also has walkways but i didn’t get that far around it ,i’ll do that another day …….

i love these coastal trees

i went for a walk around Te Mata peak last weekend to find the redwood grove .. there are two groves there , the baby redwoods and the giant redwoods , i found the baby ones but ran out of time to walk to the giants as the weather was turning bad …. this is what i found

gum tree

all that is now

the dark side

all that is gone

all that’s to come

and every thing under the sun is in tune

but the sun is eclipsed by the moon……

i was thirteen when i first heard those lyrics and i still love them…

i have just added this album to my vinyl collection…..

west coast

in last nights post i said that the sounds are the jewel in the crown of nz scenery, this may or may not be true , on reflection the west coast and southland , of the south island , are as stunning …

waters edge…the deepest lake in nz , 462 m , lake hauroko fiordland
hokitka west coast
punakaiki, west coast
granity , west coast
jackson bay ,haast west coast
catlins waterfall
catlins, southland

an untouched beach

the cook strait ferry

queen charlotte sound

the call to move the cook strait ferry terminal from picton to clifford bay has started again … from a sheltered port in queen charlotte sound to an exposed beach at clifford bay is , and always will be , an option prefered by muppets.. the age-old call , it will take 1/2 an hour of the trip , has not been good enough in the past and will not be good enough now.. that extra 1/2 an hour is the most incredible scenery in this country.. having taken the trip hundreds of times i am still in awe of the scenery and beleave it is the jewel in our crown …….. lets leave the terminal where it is ….

as some of you will know i am a Rolling Stones fan as well as a reborn vinyl diehard… this path can only lead to “Exile on Main Street” … today i went to my favorite record shop (The Musicbox, heretaunga street Hastings …a must visit if you are ever in this part of the world ) and picked up a copy .. as with all the Rolling Stone records that i buy i paid a premium and got an excellent recording….
